Stand is successionally old, as evidenced by the absence of cottonwood and the extreme age of numerous forest-grown bur oak trees, estimated to be in excess of 325 years old. No other area on the entire floodplain contains so many bur oak trees of such size. Also contains an assemblage of numerous orchids, grape ferns, and wood violet not found in other floodplain stands.
 
Ecological Take-Line Explanation
Forest is protected on one side by the River and the eastern boundary is Highway 1806. To the south is also Riverine/Lowland Forest that would be a good buffer and is also in fairly good shape. The north is bounded by a fence line.
